Abstract Paintings

Vivian Altman explores the rich expressive possibilities within her media. These spirited compositions express movement and expansion, with vibrant colors and lush, sensuous textures that capture our attention and reveal many surprises. Her forms take on a life of their own and the results are both familiar and mysterious.







































Vivian Altman, a resident of Beacon NY for the past 3 years, works out of Beacon Studios in Beacon and was a member of bau, Beacon Artist Union in 2006 and 2007. She has been teaching art in the Newburgh City School District since 1996.

Altman's paintings have been shown at bau, the New York Brooklyn Museum Art School, Vassar College, The Class of 1929 Art Gallery at Eisenhower Hall at The United States Military Academy at West Point, Edge Gallery, Denver, Colorado, Woodstock Art Gallery, Pace University Satellite Campus at Stewart Airport, Orange County Community College, The Orange County Art Federation and the Orange County Arts Council, the New Paltz College Gallery, among others. Altman received her B.F.A. in Painting from the State College of New York at New Paltz, New York and her M. A. Degree in Studio Art at New York University, New York City. She has also studied at Massachusetts College of Art and at the Santa Raparata International Art School in Florence, Italy.
